Rheinschlucht: Ilanz - Staderas

The ruinaulta natural monument is also called the "Swiss Grand Canyon". This predicate is probably rightly deserved, because the up to 300 meter high walls of landslide breccia give the approximately 11,000-year-old gorge in the deposit area of the Flims landslide an imposing appearance. There are several ways to discover this dreamlike landscape.

From Ilanz it goes on the well-developed romantic hiking trail next to the Vorderrhein to Castrisch, through a floodplain of national importance and along the Rhine to the heart of the gorge to Versam Station. This is followed by other floodplains of national importance and the crossing of the Chli Isla near Chrummwag. After crossing the Rhine on the RhB bridge, you hike steeply through spruce and Erika pine forest up to the plateau of Ransun, from there on a forest road and on a hiking trail up to Conn. Nearby you can climb the viewing platform "Il Spir" and admire the Rhine Gorge from above. At the top of the landslide mass we follow the well-painted path through the gross forest via Mutta Sura, with a view of Lake Cauma, and on to Staderas to the PostBus stop.

The section from the bridge at Valendas-Sagogn station to Conn corresponds to the route Staderas-Conn-Rhine Gorge Ruinaulta, but in the opposite direction.
