Description

Recharge your batteries and enjoy the peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of winter - on the Plattis snowshoe trail you can enjoy the tranquillity of the snow-covered mountains with a magnificent panoramic view of the Spitzmeilen area. The easy snowshoe hike is ideal for beginners.

Hidden Gem

In the sunny Alprestaurant Panüöl with the best view of the local mountain Spitzmeilen, we recommend the popular and well-known Panüöler cheese slice, a cheese fondue or a raclette.

Equipment

Normal snow sports equipment incl. snowshoes and possibly poles.

Snowshoes can be hired from Intersport on the Flumserberg.

Directions

The snowshoe hike starts at the Alprestaurant Panüöl. You can reach Panüöl on foot via the Prodalp-Panüöl snowshoe trail or with the gondola and chairlift from Flumserberg Tannenboden via Maschgenkamm. The cozy sun terrace offers a magnificent view of the Spitzmeilen. The circular tour leads over the Plattis plateau. Where cows graze on the alpine meadows in summer, you can enjoy the tranquillity and idyll of the winter landscape. After the first few meters, the trail branches off to the left and runs along the edge of the mountain. This section shows the Spitzmeilen area from its most impressive side. The Spitzmeilen summit juts out of the snowy slopes as a steep rocky peak. Flums' local mountain lies on the border between the cantons of St. Gallen and Glarus and is a popular touring destination in both summer and winter. After around 1.2 km, you cross the Tannenboden-Fursch cross-country ski trail and follow the trail past snow-covered fir trees. The route climbs gently in an arc around the small moorland area. With a bit of luck, you may spot tracks of wild animals in the snow. On the last section, you cross the cross-country ski trail again and return to the Alprestaurant. Ambitious snowshoe hikers can combine the tour with the Panüöl-Prodalp snowshoe trail. Thanks to the southern exposure, the descent is rewarded with plenty of afternoon sun and a spectacular view of Sarganserland.
