Description

The third stage of the Swiss Epic 2020 leads with two loops over a total of 50km and 1900 meters of altitude around Arosa. The tour begins with a 10km and 800m ascent up to the Hörnligrat. Over the idyllic Alp Maran and through the Arlen Forest you pass the first highlight of this tour: the Arosa Bear Sanctuary. If you have time, you can make a short detour to observe the formerly abused bears in their new home. It continues with a steady ascent to the Carmenna hut, then it gets really steep up to the Hörnligrat - the beer or snack in the Hörnli hut is well deserved. After a snack on the Hörnligrat, there is a spectacular descent on a narrow trail with exposed spots into the Urdentäli, where a beautiful, but also challenging uphill trail in the high alpine landscape leads you up to the Urdenfürggli. From there, a rapid and flowing descent follows on a newly created trail in alpine terrain with a view of the Lenzerheide. Then it goes up to Gredigs Fürggli at 2,614 m above sea level. M – at the same time the highest point of this tour as well as the entire Swiss Epic 2020. What goes up must come down: This is followed by 10km of pure downhill fun! A beautiful trail in stony terrain along a mountain flank leads into a flowing trail through a green pasture landscape with a view of the beautifully embedded and picturesque Älplisee. But that's not all: This is followed by the lowest part of the unique HörnliTrail, one of the longest and most beautiful flow trails in Europe, which leaves nothing to be desired for MTBs. A beautiful trail along an untouched green landscape takes you to a stream crossing and from there to the second long climb of the tour. With a length of 15km and 500 meters of elevation gain, a stop in the village of Arosa is recommended to replenish your energy reserves. The ascent to the Rot Tritt – where a fantastic view awaits you – is smooth at the beginning. After a while, the ascent, which provides plenty of variety with trails in between, becomes a bit steeper. Once on the plateau, this tour literally takes you to new spheres: The descent promises pure pleasure and is surrounded by a unique lunar landscape. If you like trails, you won't need the phrase "Houston, we have a problem" in this section. A rooty trail leads to the Arosa Bear Sanctuary, from where a trail with an incredible panorama over Arosa leads to a well-deserved end of the day in Arosa.  A dip in the cool water of the Untersee is particularly recommended.

Geheimtipp
