Details

Description

Ascent through Val Maroz to Alp Maroz Dent and from there southwest, steeply up the slope into Val da la Duana. On the plain we pass two small mountain lakes before the path climbs again to the pass. At the top opens the magnificent view towards Val Bondasca and down into Bergell. The view also accompanies us during the descent to Soglio (about 1500 meters of elevation loss). With some luck, there is still an open restaurant in Soglio for the well-deserved after-work beer or a hearty dinner.

Hidden Gem

there are no refreshments on the route bring sufficient provisions

Safety Note

The descent to Soglio is steep and stretches out - but technically the path offers no major challenges.

Equipment

Good mountain boots, packed lunch, sunscreen, possibly hiking poles

Directions

From Casaccia - parking lot by the small cemetery - follow the driveway that in bends leads up the wooded terrace to the entrance of Val Maroz. The footpath takes a more direct course and repeatedly crosses the road, with which it reconnects again on the flat section above.

Past the junction to the Septimer Pass and the huts of Maroz Dora (1799 m), the wide path leads to Maroz Dent (2035 m). Shortly before the alpine buildings, the path turns left, passes below the alp and crosses the Maira stream on a wooden bridge. At the junction on the other side of the stream, we follow the path westward along the Maira. About one km later, the steep ascent begins, which after about 500 meters of elevation leads us to the saddle before Val da la Duana. Here, the unmarked route to Piz Duan branches off to the left.

Our path leads us to the right past Lägh da la Duana, through the flat valley further to a second small mountain lake from which the Maira originates. From here the path rises again about 400 meters in altitude until we reach Pass da la Duana (2697 m).

The steep descent leads us to the huts of Cadrin (2136 m), where the path from Val da Cam joins us. Over a beautiful mule track it goes through the forest and over clearings to the Plän West terraces (1822 m) and Tombal, until the final descent to Soglio (1090 m).
