Description

Three beautiful lakes line this demanding but unforgettable trail round from Disentis to Bugnei – which can be shortened by a few (descent) meters with the help of the aerial cableway to Caischavedra or on the Cuolm da Vi. The return trip is served by the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway, which runs hourly from Bugnei to Disentis – and before that, the Bogn Sedrun invites you to relax.

The trail for ambitious runners is almost 24 kilometers long, with nearly 1400 meters of altitude gain, and starts at the monastery in Disentis. Initially, the route follows hiking and forest roads to Alp Lumpegna, then follows the marked but partly pathless ascent to the highest point of the round at 2550 meters in the Foppas area. Here there are several route options, before after a short descent Lag Brit invites for a first break – and for the fearless, a refreshing swim. The biggest challenges of the route have already been overcome at this point. On panoramic trails high above Disentis and with dream views of the glacier world of Piz Medel, it continues past Lag Crest Ault [sometimes little water in midsummer] and Lag Serein. Further, at some distance, past the mountain station of the aerial cableway Caischavedra and on the Senda Pauli through blueberry meadows and open forest towards Bostg. By then, it’s time for another break to calmly enjoy the view; then the final descent to Bugnei awaits.

Variant 1: Short round and return by aerial cableway in Caischavedra

Variant 2: From Bostg over a white-blue ridge path to the mountain station Cuolm da Vi and descent by aerial cableway to Sedrun.

Hidden Gem

Bring swimwear: on a hot summer day, a quick jump into Lag Brit – priceless.

Safety Note

Water from streams is available en route. Dining option in Caischavedra

Directions

From the parking lot, briefly along the cantonal road to the junction of the hiking trail on the left side. Follow the signage to Faltscharidas, Lumpegna, Foppas. Before the mountain station Caischavedra, turn right onto another hiking trail to Bostg. From Bostg, descend westward to Sedrun. At the next fork, continue to Bugnei. The last section of the path leads over a forest road. Return by train to Disentis.
