Description
Our tips for the stage:
- Palazzo Castelmur: The Palazzo Castelmur looks like it is from another time. It can be visited in summer - but it is also worthwhile to see it from the outside.
- Stone slab path "La Plotta": The stone slab path was an important connection to Soglio before the road was built. In addition, the view of the Sciora group and Pizzo Badile is magnificent.
- Soglio: Arrival in Soglio feels like a dream. Discover the many faces of this historic mountain village.
In the forest just after Vicosoprano, you pass the old execution site of Bergell. On comfortable paths, you reach Borgonovo, the birthplace of the famous painter and sculptor Alberto Giacometti. The cemetery on the outskirts of the village houses, among many other family members, his grave.
Further in Stampa, you will find the valley museum Ciäsa Granda with the Giacometti-Varlin room, and in the district of Coltura, a visit to the Palazzo Castelmur is recommended. From here, it first goes on forest roads to the hamlet of Caccior, where a small hiking trail branches off. Here too, historical evidence is soon to be seen: the so-called "stone slab path" was an important connection up to Soglio before the road was built. With a spectacular view of the Sciora group and Pizzo Badile, you finally reach Soglio.
Equipment
Good hiking shoes are especially recommended from Coltura onwards.
Directions
The Via Bregaglia enters the forest again at "Casa Helvetia", the large building of EWZ, and emerges again at the magnificent old houses of Borgonovo. Here you can continue over the beautiful two-arched bridge on the right side of the valley to Coltura, where the Palazzo Castelmur stands at the end of the village. Or you follow the Via Bregaglia on the left side of the valley in Borgonovo. This allows a visit to the Church of San Giorgio, whose cemetery holds the grave of the famous sculptor Alberto Giacometti and his equally famous relatives. Inside, a famous stained glass window by Augusto Giacometti can be admired. Continuing along the main road, you reach Stampa, where it is recommended to visit the Ciäsa Granda, the valley museum. Just before the Giacometti studio, about 50m before the Ciäsa Granda, you cross the "Punt Duan" and continue towards Coltura, where you will find the second museum of the valley: the Palazzo Castelmur. Shortly after the Palazzo Castelmur, you leave the village and on the paved road pass not far by the Church of San Pietro. The path continues to the houses of Caccior, where our hike leads on a steep mountain trail towards Soglio.
