Show all 12 images

From Andiast to Rueun, a comfortable natural road leads over meadows and forests down to the valley floor. Between Rueun and Ilanz, the path is mostly flat along gravel paths and hiking trails passing by the historical workshop Schnaus of the Giger brothers. The waterwheel can be visited freely. A detour to the Minas da Gulatsch, where ore mining was formerly practiced, is also recommended.

Description
At the beginning, the partly scenic hike leads down to the valley floor at Rueun. Here you also pass by the entrance to the Minas da Gulatsch. A detour to the former mining sites is definitely worthwhile, as the path is also equipped with child-friendly stations. Further on to Ilanz leads a well-developed, mostly flat natural road. In Rueun stands the oldest wooden bridge in the canton of Graubünden – it is also one of the oldest in Europe. Those who want to visit it must make a detour to the train station in Rueun. In Rueun, the path leads along the road into the village, here turn into Via Principala (turn right towards Schnaus). At the church in the village of Rueun, the circular route goes left (through the houses). Note that the signpost is somewhat hidden. After Rueun, you have the option to hike part of the route on the historical “Via Suworow” or make a small detour through the village of Schnaus. Shortly before Schnaus and the historical site of the Giger brothers, there is a forest educational trail. It is worth planning a little extra time for this and visiting the Gigerseeli as well as the old waterwheel.
Hidden Gem
Take your time for a detour to the Minas da Gulatsch. From the junction at Panixerstrasse, a 2 km long path leads to the caves. Allow about 2 hours (round trip). There is also a covered resting place at the back.
A visit to the historical workshop in Schnaus is worthwhile. Please observe the opening hours: Historical Giger Workshop
After Rueun, part of the circular route can be hiked on the historically significant "Via Suworow" and in Schnaus, a detour through the forest educational trail with the Gigerseeli at the historical site of the Giger brothers is recommended.
Safety Note
The route should not be started in uncertain weather conditions. Weather changes in the mountains are common. If a rain front or similar approaches during the hike, you should turn back in time.
