Cultural hike on well-developed hiking trails. A journey of discovery into the rich historical and cultural past and present of Bergell.
Stage 64.06: Vicosoprano – Stampa – Piuro – Chiavenna
On the historic valley path through Bergell – home of the famous Giacometti artist family – you will encounter, among others, the Pretorium with the round tower in Vicosoprano, the valley museum Ciäsa Granda in Stampa, the Palazzo Castelmur in Coltura, the chestnut educational trail in Castasegna, the relics of ancient Plurs "area museo degli scavi" or the Palazzo Vertemate Franchi in Piuro. The cultural long-distance route Via Sett ends in the Italian Chiavenna, a thriving Alpine town with a well-preserved old town center rich in culture and gastronomy.
Variation: Vicosoprano – Chiavenna in 2 days
Stage 6a: Vicosoprano – Stampa – Promontogno
On a tour through Vicosoprano you will encounter, among others, the Pretorio (1583) and patrician houses. Cross the stone arch bridge and visit the EWZ residential settlement designed by architect Bruno Giacometti. Enjoy the Salsiz from Salumeria Chiesa and a piece of Mascarplin. Walk through the flower-decorated streets of Borgonovo and visit the church San Giorgio with the graves of the Giacometti artist family in the same place. The valley museum Ciäsa Granda in Stampa surprises with Bergell history and present, in Coltura the Palazzo Castelmur. Through the medieval valley dam "Müraia" you reach Promontogno with the narrow village street and multi-storey houses.
Stage 6b: Promontogno – Bondo – Piuro – Chiavenna
Stroll through Bondo with its stately houses, palaces and gardens, look over the Coltüra plain with its characteristic stable buildings, hike on the historic road to the border town Castasegna with its classicist commercial buildings, Villa Garbald and the red customs pavilion. Treat yourself with Soglio products and allow yourself an additional detour on the chestnut educational trail. Do not miss the waterfalls Cascate dell’ Acqua Fraggia in Borgonuovo, the Palazzo Vertemate Franchi in Prosto and the famous biscuits from Prosto. Walk through shady forests to the "Marmitte dei Giganti" before reaching Chiavenna on footpaths.

Hidden Gem
The Via Sett is walkable from mid-June to mid-October, depending on weather conditions. The long-distance hike of about 93 km from Chur (CH) to Chiavenna (IT) can be completed in 6 or 7 daily stages. The average walking time per day is 4 - 7 hours.
