Description

From Ardez station, walk north directly to the main road and follow it eastward to the edge of the village. Here the path turns left and leads across the field, passing the schoolhouse on the right and in two bends to the junction towards Chanoua. Even here, turning around offers an impressive view of the castle ruin over the roofs of Ardez into the Val Sampuoir and to Sur En on the opposite valley side. From here the path steadily ascends to the ruin of the sustler station Chanoua, where a short rest with a view towards Upper Engadin is worthwhile. A few meters further downstream on the right side of the Inn river, you can see the proud Tarasp castle and the hamlets of the village. The path here follows the road for about 2 km and then turns right into the forest at the exhibition site in front of Hotel Paradies, passing the hotel and the old mill to the Nügla hill on the southwestern edge of Ftan, the hiking destination. From Ftan, sports buses run every half hour to Scuol, from where the train runs hourly back to Ardez.

Hidden Gem

If time permits, a short detour in Ardez to the castle hill of the Steinsberg ruin is recommended. Or in Ftan, visit the toboggan run and airboard slope at the Ftan-Prui chairlift.

Safety Note

The path is groomed after every snowfall. Please pay attention to the condition reports in the winter sports report. The route was assessed under favorable weather conditions; current snow and weather conditions must be checked before starting.
