Description

First you take the gondola lift to the Maschgenkamm. At 2020 m.a.s.l., a magnificent view is already awaited and you hike along the high-altitude panorama trail in the direction of Zigerfurgglen. The route continues past the Sächserseeli in the direction of Hoch Camatsch. From here you have a wonderful view of the Glarus Alps. Continue along a high-altitude trail to the Erdisglumen at 2293 m.a.s.l. This is followed by a descent in the direction of Abendweid, from where the path then leads slightly but permanently uphill again via Chamm, past several small lakes to the Schattenchamm. Now follows the descent from 2235 m above sea level to the upper Murg lakes at 1820 m above sea level. Before you tackle the descent to Mornen through the beautiful landscape, you deserve a rest in the cosy mountain inn Murgsee. From the mountain inn it is only downhill. The wild Murg Valley has a lot to offer. The lower Murgsee is a true natural paradise and you hike in the Murg valley through the most beautiful and largest pine stands in the canton of St. Gallen. Finally, the hike ends in Murg am Walensee. If you wish, you can also take the Murg albus back to Murg or Unterterzen from Mornen or Merlen. (Murgtaltaxi to/from the Merlen or Mornen car park, please book in advance at +41 79 735 30 00).

Geheimtipp

Please reserve the Murgsee bus in advance, as there is no mobile phone reception in the Murg Valley. Murg can be reached on foot from Merlen in just under 2 hours. With overnight stay in the Murgsee hut with return hike on day 2 over the Mürtschental to Mornen.

Sicherheitshinweis

The descent from the Schattenchamm to the Murgseen is a bit steep, easily accessible in fog-free weather.
