Palfries mountain station - "in de Stei" - Stralrüfi mountain restaurant

We start the hike at the Palfries mountain station. The Palfriesbahn cable car takes us up around 1,250 meters in just 12 minutes. The cable car travels over an impressive waterfall (Ragnatscher Bach) and takes us up to the Palfries plateau.

From the mountain station, we hike along the asphalt road to the Palfries mountain inn. The path turns right at the parking lot and runs steadily uphill towards Alvier. The hiking trail turns left at both "In de Stei" and "Mürli" and we now hike slightly downhill towards the Stralrüfi mountain restaurant. An impressive panorama of the surrounding mountain peaks and Lake Walen awaits us here. The one-hour walk back to the mountain station leads along a natural road that is suitable for wheelchairs and baby carriages.

On the way back from the Stralrüfi mountain restaurant towards the mountain station, we find the oldest residential building from the Walser period at the Althaus on Hinderpalfris. A dendrochronological examination has shown that the building was erected in 1409 or 1410. The historic building can be visited free of charge (key depot in the Palfries mountain inn).

From the mountain station, we hike 500 meters along the asphalted alpine road to the Palfries mountain inn. Immediately after the gravel parking lot, we take the mountain path to the right towards Alvier. After about half an hour we are "in de Stei", where we continue to the left. On the hike to "Mürli" we are greeted by the mountain spring with the most diverse and beautiful alpine flowers. There we turn left and walk more or less along the dry stone wall at the beginning. After around half an hour, we reach the Stralrüfi mountain restaurant. The way back to the mountain station is cropped and leads along the gravelled natural road to the parking lot where we branched off at the start of the hike. The mountain station can be reached in a quarter of an hour from the Palfries mountain restaurant.
