Description
The Outdoor Fitness Trails in the Heidiland vacation region comprise over 30 uniformly signposted running trails from a total of 10 stations, forming one of the largest outdoor fitness parks in the Alps. The Quinten Trail is one of four running trails around the Walenstadt station.
The starting point for this 8.7 km trail is the info point at the Walenstadt station near the Schifflände (425 m above sea level). The first few meters run alongside the lake and the playground. After this short run-in, the steep but even ascent begins on a well-maintained alpine road to Frachtina (800 m). During the entire ascent, you can always catch a glimpse of Lake Walen and the Flums mountains through the dense forest. Up to the Garadur clearing (829), there are only small, gentle climbs to overcome and you have time to admire the imposing Churfirsten peaks to your right. From Garadur, the trail leads over hill and dale on a partly technically demanding and steep hiking trail down to the lake (be careful in wet conditions!). Even during the descent, there are always beautiful views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. As soon as you have completed the steep descent, the hiking trail becomes less demanding again and the landscape and topography become more varied. A little up - a little down - that's the rest of the trail to Quinten. It passes vineyards, waterfalls, streams, rugged rock faces, small hamlets and through forests. And if you keep your eyes and ears open, you will see - or at least hear - the many lizards warming themselves in the sun. On the last section from Au to Quinten, the hiking trail becomes really wide again and leads past a beautifully situated barbecue site and spectacular rock faces.
