Description
This section of the route is a scenically wonderful hike. On the way from Untersee to the reservoir, you follow the "path of water" and can educate yourself using the information boards. Afterwards, various alp pastures follow. After Furggaalp, you continue hiking to the old Walser settlement Medergen. It lies idyllically on the mountain, and the mountain restaurant Alpenrose invites you to rest. The settlement of Medergen, Sapün and Strassberg took place in the 13th and 14th centuries. A walk through Medergen is worthwhile, as many lovingly designed details can be discovered. Another scenic highlight is offered during the descent into Sapün. The steep rock face of the Chüpfenflue makes one pause in awe. Shortly after, you reach the day’s destination, the Berggasthaus Heimeli. With some luck, deer can be observed from the terrace in the surrounding wildlife sanctuary, or you may spot chamois in the walls of the Chüpfenfluh.
Hidden Gem
- short excursion to Janetsch Boden (great view)
- delicious Bündner dish at Heimeli
- Walser villages Medergen and Dörfji in Sapün
Safety Note
In the variant via Tritt and Latschüelfurgga, surefootedness and a head for heights are prerequisites as an iron ladder has to be climbed. In addition, the route should not be taken if there is still snow or thunderstorms are approaching.
