Details
Description
This section of the route is a scenically beautiful hike. On the way from Untersee to the reservoir, you follow the "Path of Water" and can educate yourself with the help of information boards. Afterwards, various alpine pastures follow. After Furggaalp, you continue hiking to the old Walser settlement Medergen. It lies idyllically on the mountain, and the mountain restaurant Alpenrose invites you to rest. The settlement of Medergen, Sapün and Strassberg took place in the 13th and 14th centuries. A walk through Medergen is worthwhile as many lovingly designed details can be discovered. Another scenic highlight is offered when descending into Sapün. The steep rock face of the Chüpfenflue commands respectful admiration. Shortly afterwards, you reach the day's goal, the Berggasthaus Heimeli. With some luck, deer can be observed from the terrace in the surrounding wildlife sanctuary, or you can spot chamois on the wall of the Chüpfenfluh.
Hidden Gem
- small excursion to Janetsch Boden (great view)
- delicious Bündner specialties at Heimeli
- Walser villages Medergen and Dörfji in Sapün
Safety Note
For the variant via Tritt and Latschuëlfurgga, surefootedness and a head for heights are required, as you have to climb an iron ladder. Also, the route should not be taken if there is still snow or thunderstorms are approaching.
