Description

The tour connects the four Bergeller SAC huts and consists of five routes, some of which can also be walked as day hikes:

  • Forno Panorama Trail
This path has its name rightly: it offers the most beautiful views of the surrounding landscape and leads past several small mountain lakes, in whose water the nearby mountain peaks are reflected.
    About 10 km, ascent from Maloja 1100 m, descent 210 m, duration approx. 5-6 hours, T3+
  • Pass da Casnil
From the Casnil Sud pass you can enjoy a magnificent view and look directly at the impressive north face of the Cima dal Cantun. If you are lucky, you can even observe ibex.
    Approx. 8.5 km, ascent 750 m, descent 1000 m, duration approx. 5-6 hours, T5
  • Pass Cacciabella Sud
    Approx. 6.8 km, ascent 730 m, descent 940 m, duration approx. 4-5 hours, T5
  • Descent Sciora Hut to Bondo
    Approx. 7.8 km, ascent 100 m, descent 1380 m, duration approx. 4-5 hours, T3
  • Sciora Hut - Larett - Sasc Furä Hut
The direct connection between the two huts was buried in the 2017 landslide. From autumn 2025 there will be an alternative connection via the very beautiful new Sicorahüttenweg. Until then,
    Approx. 8.5 km, ascent 815 m, descent 1025 m, duration approx. 5-5.5 hours, T3
  • Descent to Bondo (or alternatively a crossing of the Passo della Trubignasca into Val Cordera
    Approx. 7.7 km, ascent 350 m, descent 1435 m, duration approx. 4-5 hours, T4

Geheimtipp

Book the cabins in advance, especially on weekends and in high season.

Note: The tour can be extended with another overnight stay in the hut by crossing the Passo Trubignasca in the direction of Val Codera after the Sasc Furä hut. This overnight stay at the Rifugio Luigi Brasca can be booked directly at the hut on request.

Sicherheitshinweis

Difficulty:

  • On the Panorama Trail, caution is advised in early summer when crossing the snowfields below the Pizzi dei Rossi.
  • The Pass da Casnil is one of the more difficult sections of the route with T4/T5. The paths are partially exposed and at some points there are metal chains that make the climbing passages safer and more pleasant. The chains are installed at the beginning of summer. It is possible to encounter snowfields along the way, especially at the beginning of the season. More information
  • The Cacciabella Sud pass is also challenging. The descent is secured with chains and ladders.  T5
  • All sections require a good level of fitness and mountain experience.

Ausrüstung

Possibly ice axe, crampons, harnesses with rope and carabiners for the set-up sections.

Directions

The route:

Day 1: Forno Panorama Trail

Departure is at the Maloja Pass. We walk along the footpath or the cart path to Lake Cavloc. From here we follow the path in the valley floor to the Fornotal/Muretto Pass junction. Here we would still have the option of deciding on the direct route through the Forno Valley to the hut (on the right).

Crossing the Orlegna, we reach the path towards the Muretto Pass. At an altitude of about 2300 m, the Panorama Route branches off to the right over the stream to the Forno Hut. It passes the Laghetti di Rossi and leads through gravel fields and slag heaps past another lake at about 2750 m to the Forno Hut (2574 m).

Day 2: Pass da Casnil

From the hut we descend in steep serpentines from the edge moraine to the glacial basin of Val Forno. Downstream we cross the glacier stream on a small bridge and then climb steeply to the southwest over tracks and rock slabs. Below the ridge foothills of the Piz Casnil east ridge, we reach the passage secured with chains and iron steps. Good surefootedness is needed here.
Continue through a wide scree basin towards the Casnil Sud pass. Over increasingly loose gravel you reach the pass at 2940 m. On the blue-and-white marked hiking trail, we first traverse some coarse boulders and then reach a striking scree ridge and over this down to the small lakes. From here it is not far to the Capanna da l'Albigna.

Day 3: Cacciabella Sud Pass

From the Albigna Hut we descend to the lake and cross the dam. From here, the blue-and-white marked hiking trail goes higher and higher above the lake, ascending southwards. It gets challenging from the last steep climb up to the pass. On the other hand, some critical points await us on the descent, which are secured with the help of ladders, chains and ropes. The further descent to the Sciora hut is steep but no longer so exposed.

Day 4: Sciora Hut - Larett - Bondo

The descent is up to about 1900 m on the old hut path. From Naravedar, the new path crosses the steep slopes below the Piz Grand and the I Mot, and we cross the deeply cut side valleys comfortably on several breathtaking suspension bridges. Once at the bottom of the valley, we follow the comfortable path along the Bondasca to Bondo.

 from autumn 2025 ***************************************

Day 4: Sciora Hut - Larett - Sasc Furä Hut
The descent is up to about 1900 m on the old hut path. From Naravedar, the new path crosses the steep slopes below the Piz Grand and the I Mot, and we cross the deeply cut side valleys comfortably on several breathtaking suspension bridges.
At Selvartigh we have reached the lowest point and cross the valley floor of the Bundasca. we cross it with the help of a suspension bridge, which was still installed in Bondo until spring 2025. After a short ascent, the route crosses the Trubinasca. We follow the path slightly uphill to the east for just under a kilometre until we come across the former hut path from the Bondasca valley at Jerta to the Sasc Furä hut. From here the path becomes quite steep and leads us about 200 meters in altitude through the rock ledge below the Sasc Furä.  The last 200 meters of altitude are a bit more comfortable again and bring us directly to the hut at 1904 m.

Day 5: Descent to Bondo

On the descent we follow the path south until at the highest point (the actual descent is only now coming) the path to the Turbinasca Pass branches off to the left. On a slight slope we cross the slope below the pass to the ledge that descends from the Pizzi dei Vanni. On a ridge it goes a good 100 meters steeper downhill before we start to circle the Salecina at about 1800 m. Unfortunately, the stream valleys and ravines have to be climbed on this route without suspension bridges. Above Luvartigh we meet the red and white path that leads us down to Alp Cugian. We descend further into the Bondasca Valley and reach the end of our tour in Bondo or Promontogno.
