Lago Bianco
Lago Bianco on the Bernina Pass is one of the largest lakes in the Engadine (3 km in length and 21 million cubic meters of water), but unlike the other lakes, it has been artificially enlarged with two dams to generate electrical energy.

Description

The hike starts at Ospizio Bernina station. From there you walk in a southerly direction on the gravel road along the lakeshore to the dam wall (about 2.5 km), where an overwhelming panorama is offered. Here you leave the hiking trail that leads down towards Alp Grüm and reach the other side of the lake, where a pleasant path leads to Plan Cambrena. After a few steps you come to the northern dam wall. Along this wall you reach the eastern shore of the lake again. Here you move almost exactly on the watershed: The water of Lago Bianco flows over the Po into the Mediterranean, the water of the northern Lej Nair ("Schwarzsee") flows into the Black Sea.

The circular walk ends at Ospizio station. In total, the whole circumnavigation of the lake is about 8 km long.
